Been waiting to see this film — wanted to see what Nick Cassavetes would do with the true tale of Jesse James Hollywood (What could his parents have been thinking; dooming him at birth with a name like that).
Last night at Arclight ( http://www.arclightcinemas.com/(fffzbw551pyod3fsjucfsa45)/arclight/arclightHome.aspx ) I finally got to see the film and I loved it — not the script as the writing was weak — not the camera work as I’m not impressed with tricky camera work that takes you out of the story — not by Justin exposing himself to us for the talent he is — but for BEN FOSTER and his performance. What he brought to the film should get him Oscar attention (certainly if the film was a studio film) — we can only hope he gets Golden Globe attention ( http://www.hfpa.org/ ) and they create an Oscar campaign for him.
Ben Foster, as Jake Mazursky in Alpha Dog makes Ed Norton, as Derek Vinyard (Norton was nominated for an Oscar in this role) in American History X, look like a Disney character.
