Now I get it!

The Galaxy didn’t say exactly what they’ll pay him, but floated a figure of $250 million in salary and commercial endorsements over the five years of his contract. In other words, his move could be worth a cool $1 million a week.

Say it ain’t so…”

Another sad career choice from another superb athlete in his field. David Beckham is coming to Los Angeles. NO, I’m serious, he’s really coming. After spending most of last season on the sidelines cheering on (or not) his teammates, the washed up (I’m afraid to say) star must have agreed with his wife, the previously washed-up pop star Posh Spice of Spice Girl fame — to come to Los Angeles so she can attempt to grab a second bite at the apple and become a film star (the paparazzi will find her on Rodeo Drive). Yes, I like Beckham. Some of the time he’s talented, most of the time he’s cool but all of the time he appears to be a good husband and great father — for this he gets my vote. I’ll even throw a few votes his way for the choice of nanny be bedded (oh come on, relax — Posh loved it!). But I have a problem when talented and gifted people surround themselves with agents and managers and hanger-ons who won’t turn out the lights when the party’s over. They squeeze every last hit, kick and throw out of their talent for every penny they can commission on.

It’s safe to say that we’ll see Beck’s out on the town with Tom Cruise, the wives shopping on Rodeo and Melrose — gee, I’ll bet some bright mind will even suggest that’s it’ll be a great photo op and PR stunt to have Beck’s join the Cruises at one of Cruise’s kids sporting events — that’s always been a sideshow I could never understand.

And for those of you who disagree — I have two words — Brian Bosworth.
